Illustrator CC screen modes
00:02:21 If you press the "F" key again,
00:02:23 you're going to hide everything except for the scroll bars
00:02:26 and the Zoom and Artboard options
00:02:28 in the lower left corner of the screen.
00:02:31 So in other words, we're hiding the menu bar,
00:02:33 we're hiding the control panel, we're hiding the Toolbox,
00:02:36 and we're hiding the right side panels.
00:02:38 Which is great, again, for showing off your artwork.
00:02:41 So for example, if I press "ctrl + tab" or "command + ~"
00:02:45 a few more times in order to see
00:02:47 the welcome screen by itself, then I could press
00:02:49 "ctrl + 0" or "command + 0" on the Mac
00:02:52 in order to center the illustration,
00:02:54 and I could click inside the Zoom Value
00:02:56 and I could press the "up" arrow key
00:02:58 until I feel like I'm seeing exactly that portion of
00:03:02 the document that I want to see onscreen,
00:03:05 which I believe happens at about 66%.
00:03:08 And that way I can show off my artwork
00:03:10 without having any of the interface in the way.
00:03:13 Now, a lot of people get a little bit panicked,
00:03:15 especially at this point, with this trick, because,
00:03:18 "My goodness, how in the world
00:03:20 do I bring the interface back?"
00:03:22 Well, there's a handful of different ways.
00:03:24 First of all, you can just hover
00:03:25 where the thing that you're missing should be.
00:03:28 For example, if you move your cursor over
00:03:31 to the left side of the screen,
00:03:32 you're going to see the Toolbox,
00:03:33 at which point you could switch to a different tool,
00:03:35 like the Rectangle tool, and then if you like,
00:03:38 draw a rectangle inside of the document.
00:03:41 Which I'm not going to do,
00:03:42 I'm just demonstrating that it's possible.
00:03:44 And notice, as soon as you move your cursor away
00:03:47 from the Toolbox, it once again disappears.
00:03:49 The same is true of the right side panels.
00:03:52 So you can go ahead and hover over
00:03:54 the right side of the screen in order to
00:03:56 bring up those panels.
00:03:57 And then, you can go ahead and click on this Navigator icon,
00:04:00 the little ship's wheel here, in order to
00:04:02 bring up that Navigator panel.
00:04:04 You can even change its size.
00:04:06 You have to be careful here though,
00:04:08 that you don't move your cursor outside the panel,
00:04:10 because then the panel will disappear.
00:04:12 And now I'm going to press the "ctrl" key,
00:04:14 or the "command" key on a Mac,
00:04:16 and drag across David's eyes, let's say,
00:04:18 in order to zoom very far in.
00:04:20 And now notice as soon as I move my cursor
00:04:22 away from those panels, then the panels disappear.
00:04:25 Alright, but the real question is, how in the world
00:04:29 do we bring everything back?
00:04:31 How do we get back to the standard screen mode?
00:04:34 And the answer is, you have one of two options.
00:04:36 Either you can press that same key
00:04:38 that got you here in the first place, which is the "F" key,
00:04:41 or you can press that key that you would
00:04:42 naturally anticipate would get you out of a problem,
00:04:45 and that's the escape key.
00:04:47 And that's going to bring everything back up onscreen,
00:04:49 including my now open Navigator panel.
00:04:53 Which I'm going to go ahead and hide
00:04:54 by clicking on its ">" icon.
00:04:57 Alright now, just a few more tricks here.
00:04:59 You can temporarily hide all of the panels,
00:05:02 including the Toolbox and the Control panel,
00:05:04 by pressing the "tab" key.
00:05:06 And the advantage of that is that you still have
00:05:08 the menu bar available to you,
00:05:10 and you've got your title tabs.
00:05:13 And you can still take advantage
00:05:14 of those options I was telling you before.
00:05:16 If you want to bring back the toolbox, you just hover
00:05:18 over here on the left hand side of the screen.
00:05:21 If you want to bring back the panels,
00:05:22 you hover your cursor over here
00:05:24 on the right hand side of the screen.
00:05:26 Now let's say you want to bring the panels back,
00:05:28 well again you press that same key
00:05:30 that got you here in the first place,
00:05:32 which is the "tab" key.
00:05:33 And just one more option, you can press "shift + tab"
00:05:36 in order to hide just the right side panels,
00:05:39 and leave everything up onscreen like so.
00:05:42 And then of course if you want to bring those panels back,
00:05:44 just go ahead and press "shift + tab" again.
00:05:47 I'll go ahead and press "ctrl + 0,"
00:05:48 or "command +0" on the Mac, and zoom in a little bit here.
00:05:51 You may wonder why, at the end of the last movie,
00:05:54 I was saying that this artwork fits so well
00:05:57 inside of this panel structure.
00:05:58 Well, there's one last thing that I'm going to do,
00:06:00 and that is, switch to the single-column Toolbox,
00:06:03 but clicking on this ">" icon
00:06:06 in the upper left corner of the screen.
00:06:08 And now, if I press "ctrl + 0," or "command + 0" on the Mac,
00:06:11 you can see that things fit a little bit better anyway.
00:06:14 Now the one problem with switching screen modes
00:06:17 is that things like the color panel
00:06:19 have a tendency to expand.
00:06:20 If that happens to you though,
00:06:22 you can just drag on the bottom of that panel,
00:06:24 to give yourself room to work,
00:06:25 here inside the Layers panel.
00:06:28 And that is how you further manage your onscreen experience,
00:06:31 by cycling through screen modes,
00:06:33 as well as hiding and showing the interface.
