00:01:22  but if you do, you're going to fill their interiors as well,

00:01:25  which is not what we want.

00:01:26  So, I'll go ahead and press Control Z,

00:01:28  or Command Z on the Mac,

00:01:29  to undo that change,

00:01:30  and instead what you have to do is

00:01:31  very carefully drag along these path outlines like so,

00:01:36  and then release, and notice that I have just a little bit

00:01:40  of extra path right there,

00:01:42  so I'll go ahead and drag over this area as well,

00:01:45  and that will fuse everything into a single

00:01:47  black filled path outline.

00:01:49  At which point, I'll go ahead and press Control 0,

00:01:51  or Command 0 on the Mac, in order to zoom back out.

00:01:55  And I will once again select the blob brush.

00:01:57  Now, another way to work is to just paint

00:01:59  off the path outline,

00:02:01  so if I were to paint along the ear,

00:02:03  for example, and never touch that selected path,

00:02:07  then I'm going to begin an independent path outline

00:02:09  like so, and then, if I paint down here,

00:02:12  I will create yet another independent path,

00:02:15  and now I'm going to join to that one

00:02:18  by painting this portion of the ear.

00:02:20  But if I were to paint over here, along this eyelid,

00:02:23  then I would join back up with the big path outline.

00:02:26  Alright, but let's say I want to join

00:02:27  everything together,

00:02:28  then I could just paint along here,

00:02:30  up the cheek bone, all the way into the hair,

00:02:34  and then as soon as I release,

00:02:35  because I painted into every path outline,

00:02:37  I end up joining all those paths together.

00:02:40  Alright, now I'm going to go ahead

00:02:42  and finish off the hair,

00:02:44  and I'm going to do that in separate passes,

00:02:46  as you're seeing me do,

00:02:47  just so that I get some nice sharp corners,

00:02:50  I'm going to paint over here, like here,

00:02:53  and cheat a little into this area of the template,

00:02:55  because I feel like I need to have a little more room.

00:02:58  And, if you don't get things exactly right,

00:03:01  if you make an occasional mistake

00:03:02  by going too far, for example,

00:03:04  as I'm doing here,

00:03:06  don't worry too much about it,

00:03:07  we'll take care of problems like that in a future movie.

00:03:10  Alright, I'm just going to paint in

00:03:11  these details right here,

00:03:12  as you see me doing,

00:03:13  in order to finish off that hair,

00:03:16  and here's the big path,

00:03:17  the one along the jaw line here.

00:03:19  I've got to go very slowly,

00:03:21  so that I don't make a mess of things,

00:03:22  but if you do take things slowly enough,

00:03:24  you should be able to make it work pretty easily

00:03:26  because the tool is just so darn forgiving,

00:03:29  as you can see right here, it does a lot of the

00:03:31  smooth work for you.

00:03:33  Alright, now I'll paint up this little detail right here,

00:03:35  and I'll paint up the neck line,

00:03:37  and by the way, if you want to paint a perpendicular path,

00:03:41  then just go ahead and press the Shift key as you drag.

00:03:44  I don't want that, however, so I'll press Control Z,

00:03:46  or Command Z on the Mac to undo that change.

00:03:49  And then I'm going to scroll down a little bit

00:03:50  because I want to paint more into this neck.

00:03:53  I want to paint it kind a kind of collar into it.

00:03:55  So I'm going to paint way down here,

00:03:57  outside the bleed, as you can see,

00:03:59  that red border,

00:04:00  and then I'll paint along the bottom of the neck.

00:04:02  And I'm going to give him a left shoulder

00:04:05  that goes a little bit above that neck line,

00:04:07  and then I'll just go ahead and add

00:04:09  a couple of collar lines, as you see me doing here.

00:04:12  Alright, I'll press Control 0, or Command 0 on the Mac,

00:04:15  in order to once again center my zoom,

00:04:17  and I'll press Control Shift A,

00:04:19  or Command Shift A on the Mac,

00:04:20  in order to deselect my art work.

00:04:23  And that's how you paint independent path outlines,

00:04:25  as well as fuse those independent paths together

00:04:28  using the blob brush tool,

00:04:30  here, inside Illustrator.
