00:00:33  Notice that my pen cursor, once again, has an asterisk

00:00:36  to show me that I'm about to create a new path outline.

00:00:38  I'm going to do so by clicking and dragging.

00:00:42  So the point at which you click,

00:00:44  that determines the location of the smooth point,

00:00:46  and as you drag, you're going to draw forth control handles.

00:00:49  One, under your cursor,

00:00:51  and the other, opposite the cursor like so.

00:00:55  And now notice that my rubber band preview is curving

00:00:58  to show me that I'm going to create a curving segment,

00:01:01  but it's not entirely accurate.

00:01:03  What we're seeing is a preview of what would happen

00:01:05  if I were to click in order to create a corner point.

00:01:09  But you don't want to do that because if you do,

00:01:12  you'll have just one control handle associated

00:01:15  with this segment, and that's generally a no-no

00:01:17  because you end up with this curving segment

00:01:19  that ends with this kind of flat tire.

00:01:22  So I'm going to go ahead and press Control Z

00:01:24  or Command Z on a Mac.

00:01:25  What you want to do instead, is drag to create

00:01:28  another smooth point like so.

00:01:30  And now notice that the control handle under my cursor,

00:01:33  and my cursor is located downward by the way,

00:01:36  has nothing to do with the segment that I'm about to create.

00:01:40  Instead, it's the opposite control handle

00:01:43  that's informing this segment

00:01:45  while the control handle that I just made

00:01:47  will affect the next segment I draw.

00:01:50  So now I'll go ahead and drag down here

00:01:51  to create another control handle,

00:01:53  and notice that I have established a pattern.

00:01:56  So I started dragging from the top here

00:01:59  in a counter clockwise direction,

00:02:01  which means that I need to continue

00:02:03  in a counter clockwise direction.

00:02:04  If you start clockwise, then just continue clockwise.

00:02:08  So you can draw in either direction you want,

00:02:11  but what you don't want to do is now start dragging

00:02:14  in the wrong direction because you'll get this big loop.

00:02:17  Alright, a couple of other things to note here.

00:02:20  If you press and hold the Spacebar as you're creating

00:02:23  a smooth point, then you can move that point on the fly,

00:02:26  and as soon as you release the Spacebar,

00:02:28  you'll continue changing the curvature of the segment.

00:02:32  You can also press the Shift key

00:02:34  if you want to constrain the angle of your control handles

00:02:37  to the nearest 45 degrees.

00:02:39  But, you cannot do both at the same time.

00:02:42  And so if I were to add the Spacebar

00:02:44  while I have the Shift key down, then I would just continue

00:02:47  to constrain those control handles,

00:02:49  I will not move the anchor point.

00:02:51  So if you want to move that smooth point,

00:02:53  you need to release the Shift key,

00:02:55  then move the point to where you want it to be,

00:02:57  go ahead and release the Spacebar,

00:02:59  then hold the Shift key once again.

00:03:02  A final option that's available to you

00:03:04  is to press the Control key or the Command key on the Mac.

00:03:07  Right now, notice when I don't have any keys down,

00:03:10  that both of my control handles are absolutely symmetrical.

00:03:14  They're both moving along with my cursor.

00:03:17  But if I press the Control key or the Command key

00:03:19  on the Mac, just the control handle under my cursor moves

00:03:23  and the opposite one remains the same length.

00:03:26  I can move around to change its angles,

00:03:28  but its length remains the same.

00:03:30  But if at any time, you release the Control or Command key,

00:03:33  then your control handles are going

00:03:35  to be the same length once again.

00:03:37  Alright, finally, let's say you want to close the path.

00:03:40  I'll go ahead and move my active cursor that has no asterisk

00:03:44  over the first point in the path.

00:03:45  We now see a circle which tells us that we're about to close

00:03:48  the path, but if I were to just click, I'll get

00:03:51  this flattened segment that we're seeing in the preview.

00:03:54  That's not what I want, so in order to get a nice smooth

00:03:56  point at the end, you want to go ahead and drag once again.

00:04:00  Now the good news you'll find as you become

00:04:02  more experienced, is that you're only affecting

00:04:05  the opposite control handle.

00:04:06  You're not affecting the one that's over here

00:04:09  on the left side of the shape, in other words.

00:04:11  It's remaining the same, so that gives you a little more

00:04:14  latitude and control when you're closing the shape.

00:04:17  You also have the option of pressing and holding

00:04:19  the Spacebar to move that closing point on the fly like so.

00:04:24  And when you get it where you want it,

00:04:25  you can release the Spacebar once again

00:04:28  and continue dragging.

00:04:29  So I'm going to go ahead and release to create this shape.

00:04:32  Alright, now let's say you want to make some modifications

00:04:35  because it's not really the smoothest shape

00:04:37  I've ever created.

00:04:38  In that case, go ahead and press and hold the Control key

00:04:40  or the Command key on the Mac to get the lasso arrow tool

00:04:43  on the fly, unfortunately for me, that's the black arrow

00:04:46  tool, which does allow you to drag control handles around

00:04:50  incidentally, so you can move control handles

00:04:52  with the black arrow tool, you just can't move anchor points

00:04:55  because if you click on an anchor point,

00:04:57  you'll end up selecting the entire shape.

00:04:59  You'll also select the entire shape if you click

00:05:01  on a segment, which means I can't see

00:05:04  the control handles down here.

00:05:06  So I need to switch to the white arrow tool by pressing

00:05:08  Control tilde here on a PC

00:05:10  or Command Option Tab on the Mac,

00:05:13  then I'll click on this segment to see its control handles.

00:05:16  Notice the segments just aren't quite long enough,

00:05:19  they should be a little longer in order

00:05:21  to get a nice smooth arc.

00:05:23  And notice if I make them too long like so,

00:05:26  then I'll end up with this kind of rounded corner effect

00:05:29  right here, and if you really go far enough with it,

00:05:32  you'll get the segment to loop around.

00:05:34  Whereas, if you make your control handles too short like so,

00:05:38  then you'll end up with a flattened segment.

00:05:40  So keep in mind that rule of thirds,

00:05:43  which says that the control handles together

00:05:45  should add up to about two-thirds the length

00:05:47  of the curving segment, which is a problem up here.

00:05:50  This guy's too flat, so I'll go ahead and click

00:05:52  on this segment and drag these control handles

00:05:55  out just a little bit like so.

00:05:58  Alright, you can also draw open path outlines if you like,

00:06:01  but you don't want to start dragging on the path outline

00:06:03  because it's selected.

00:06:05  So if I were to click on a selected curving segment like so,

00:06:09  then I will not only see the plus sign next to my pen cursor

00:06:12  but I will also add a smooth point.

00:06:14  So any time you click on a selected curving segment

00:06:17  with the pen tool, you add a smooth point.

00:06:19  Alright, let's say I don't want to do that.

00:06:21  I'll just press Control Shift A or Command Shift A

00:06:23  on the Mac in order to deselect that path outline.

00:06:26  And now, I'll just drag a bunch of times in order to create

00:06:30  some more smooth points, and I'll use the Spacebar

00:06:33  in order to get that guy into a better position.

00:06:35  By the way, you can always edit the points as you're working

00:06:38  just by pressing the Control key

00:06:40  or the Command key on the Mac.

00:06:41  Go ahead and click an anchor point,

00:06:43  adjust its control handles, do whatever you want to it.

00:06:46  You can even move points around incidentally

00:06:48  without deactivating the paths, so notice, as soon

00:06:51  as I release the Control key or the Command key on the Mac,

00:06:53  my path is still active as I can see by the lack of asterisk

00:06:57  and the fact that I have a rubber band preview.

00:07:00  But, if I try to nudge a selected point

00:07:03  using the arrow keys on the keyboard,

00:07:05  the second I press an arrow key, I will deactivate the path

00:07:07  as you're seeing here.

00:07:09  So to reactivate it, you don't want to click

00:07:11  because you're working with smooth points.

00:07:13  Instead, you want to drag and then you can continue dragging

00:07:17  to add more smooth points to your path outline.

00:07:21  Then, once you get the desired effect like so,

00:07:24  and I'll just go ahead and Control-drag or Command-drag

00:07:27  that control handle inward a little bit,

00:07:29  then you can deactivate the path outline just as you can

00:07:31  when you're creating corner points

00:07:33  by pressing the Escape key or the Enter key

00:07:36  or the Return key on the Mac, it's entirely up to you.

00:07:39  Now I'm going to press the V key to switch back

00:07:41  to my black arrow tool, and I'll click off the path outline

00:07:44  to deselect it.

00:07:46  And that's how you create smooth points with a pen tool,

00:07:49  by dragging in a consistent direction, remember that,

00:07:52  here inside Illustrator.

00:02:29  Now one control handle can get shorter than the other,

00:02:31  but it's going to remain at the same angle,

00:02:34  as we're seeing here.

00:02:36  And that alignment is what defines a smooth point

00:02:39  in Illustrator.

00:02:40  All right, now we saw that if you drag the control handle

00:02:43  farther away from the segment,

00:02:45  the segment is going to bend out toward it.

00:02:47  But if you drag the control handle toward the segment,

00:02:50  it's going to start flattening out, as we're seeing here,

00:02:53  and that's because were no longer requesting

00:02:55  as much curvature.

00:02:56  If you go ahead and drag the control handle

00:02:59  to the other side of the segment,

00:03:01  it's going to bend in the other direction,

00:03:03  and it's going to bend more and more

00:03:05  the farther you drag that control handle.

00:03:08  And now, you can see that we've got

00:03:10  an awful lot of curvature

00:03:12  because the other control handle has moved across

00:03:15  its segment and farther away as well.

00:03:18  All right, let's say I like this amount of curvature

00:03:20  but I don't want my path outline going outside the artboard.

00:03:24  Then I would just go ahead and drag the square smooth point

00:03:27  inward like so.

00:03:29  All right, now I'll just go ahead

00:03:30  and center my zoom once again.

00:03:32  Now just because you're working with smooth points,

00:03:34  doesn't mean you might not get lumpy results.

00:03:37  Notice in this case, for example,

00:03:39  I'm getting an extremely lumpy curve,

00:03:42  and that's because the control handle

00:03:45  affects the way the segment exits an anchor point

00:03:48  and how it enters the next one.

00:03:50  And so in this case, both of the control handles

00:03:53  on either side of the segment are requesting

00:03:56  a ton of curvature, and that's creating

00:03:59  a kind of wavy segment, as we're seeing right here.

00:04:02  And so the solution is to just go ahead

00:04:05  and bring the control handles in

00:04:07  so that we get smoother results as we're seeing right here.

00:04:12  Now another way to see your control handles

00:04:14  is to click on a segment, in which case,

00:04:17  you'll see the control handle that's directing

00:04:19  the way the segment exits an anchor point,

00:04:21  as well as the one that defines how it's entering

00:04:24  the next anchor point.

00:04:26  Now watch what happens if I take a control handle

00:04:28  and bend it totally in the other direction.

00:04:32  We're going to end up with a loop

00:04:34  inside of our path outline.

00:04:36  That's rarely desirable, and so the solution

00:04:39  is to just go ahead and put things back the way they were.

00:04:42  You also have the option, when you're working

00:04:44  with the white arrow, of dragging directly on a segment

00:04:48  like so, in which case, you're going to modify

00:04:50  the bending of that segment.

00:04:53  And you have a lot of latitude these days.

00:04:55  You can drag that segment just about anywhere you want,

00:04:58  and the control handles will come along with it.

00:05:01  You can also constrain the drag by pressing and holding

00:05:04  the shift key, in which case,

00:05:06  those handles are going to lock to the nearest 45 degrees.

00:05:09  You can also lock your control handles

00:05:11  by shift dragging directly on them, like so,

00:05:15  which is great if you're looking for absolutely vertical

00:05:18  or horizontal alignment.

00:05:20  And so I'll go ahead and make these guys up here

00:05:23  exactly horizontal like so.

00:05:25  Now you're going to be doing a ton of work

00:05:27  with control handles inside Illustrator.

00:05:30  And you're going to run into situations

00:05:32  where you're not getting smooth results.

00:05:34  And any time that happens, I want you to take a look

00:05:37  at an arc.

00:05:38  So go to the Line Segment Tool,

00:05:40  and then select the Arc Tool.

00:05:42  And just go ahead and draw a big arc.

00:05:45  And in my case, I want to flip it

00:05:46  just for the sake of demonstration here.

00:05:49  And after you draw the arc, then press the a key

00:05:52  to switch to the White Arrow Tool,

00:05:53  and go ahead and click off the line to deselect it.

00:05:56  And then click on its segment, and you'll see

00:05:59  how the control handles are arranged.

00:06:02  And I want you to notice that we have two control handles

00:06:05  for curving segment.

00:06:07  That's very important.

00:06:08  You don't want to have just one control handle like this

00:06:11  because you'll end up with a kind of flat tire effect.

00:06:14  So you definitely want two handles for every curving segment

00:06:17  and you want those handles together

00:06:20  to occupy about 2/3 the length of the segment.

00:06:25  So in other words, about 1/3 of the length of the segment

00:06:28  is not covered by handles; and the other 2/3 are.

00:06:31  That is not to say that they have to be even in length

00:06:33  by the way.

00:06:35  One can be longer, and the other can be shorter,

00:06:37  and you can still end up with very smooth results

00:06:40  like this.

00:06:42  And that friends is how smooth points really work

00:06:44  inside Illustrator.

00:06:46  In the next movie, I'll show you how to draw smooth points

00:06:49  with the Pen Tool.

00:01:34  All right, so I'll go ahead and click in order to create

00:01:37  another corner point, and you can see that Illustrator

00:01:39  automatically joins the two points with a straight segment.

00:01:43  And now you can continue clicking to create

00:01:45  a free-form polygon.

00:01:47  If you move your cursor back to the first point in the

00:01:50  path outline, you'll see a little circle next to it,

00:01:53  which tells you you're about to close the path.

00:01:55  And once you have, the asterisk comes back to tell you

00:01:58  that if you're going to click again, you're going to create

00:02:01  yet another path outline.

00:02:03  All right, in addition to closed paths, you can create

00:02:05  open paths as well and there are two ways to do that.

00:02:09  You can either press the escape key

00:02:12  in order to turn off that path outline

00:02:14  and that will allow you to create a new one,

00:02:16  or I'll go ahead and wake this path outline back up

00:02:19  by moving my cursor over it.

00:02:21  And you can see, now I get a little line next to the cursor,

00:02:24  which I call the resume cursor because it allows you

00:02:26  to resume, modify in the path.

00:02:28  And so notice as soon as I click on one of these endpoints,

00:02:31  I, again, see my rubber band preview and the asterisk

00:02:34  next to the cursor once again disappears.

00:02:37  And now I'll just go ahead and click a couple of more times.

00:02:40  And now let's say, once again, I'm done editing.

00:02:43  The other thing you can do is press the enter key,

00:02:46  here on the PC, or the return key on the mac,

00:02:48  and that'll go ahead and deactivate the path outline.

00:02:52  And, as you can see, I get the asterisk back next to my

00:02:55  pen tool cursor, which means that if I start clicking

00:02:58  over on the other side of the document here

00:03:01  I will begin a new path outline.

00:03:03  Another option that's available to you when you're

00:03:06  modifying open path outlines, is the ability

00:03:09  to connect to open paths, and you can do that

00:03:12  just by moving your cursor over to the endpoint

00:03:15  of an inactive path, such as this one right here.

00:03:18  At which point, you'll see a little anchor point next to the

00:03:20  cursor, which tells you that you're about to connect the two

00:03:23  path outlines as well as deactivate them.

00:03:27  Which is why, I once again have an asterisk

00:03:29  next to my cursor.

00:03:31  Now in addition to creating paths with the pen tool,

00:03:34  you can also modify them.

00:03:36  And you do so by first selecting the path outline,

00:03:39  which you can do by pressing and holding the ctrl key,

00:03:41  or the cmd key on the mac, which gives you temporary access

00:03:45  to the last used arrow tool.

00:03:47  At which point, you can go ahead and click on a path

00:03:49  outline, such as this one, in order to select it.

00:03:52  Then, go ahead and release the ctrl key, or the cmd key

00:03:55  on the mac, and now move your cursor

00:03:57  over an existing segment.

00:03:59  At which point you'll see a plus sign next to the cursor,

00:04:02  which tells you that if you click, you're going to

00:04:04  add an anchor point, like so.

00:04:07  Now let's say I want to move the anchor point to

00:04:09  a different location.

00:04:10  Well if I press the ctrl key, or the cmd key on the mac,

00:04:13  and try to drag that point, I'm going to move the entire

00:04:16  path outline, because after all, my last used arrow

00:04:19  was the black arrow tool.

00:04:21  So I'll go ahead and press ctrl z or cmd z to undo that

00:04:24  move, I could manually switch back to the white arrow

00:04:27  by pressing the a key, or I can switch between the

00:04:30  arrow tools on the fly by pressing

00:04:33  ctrl ~ here on the PC.

00:04:36  And, as you may recall, the tilde key is the one in the

00:04:38  upper left corner of an American keyboard.

00:04:41  Now on the mac, that's not going to work.

00:04:43  That's going to switch you between open documents,

00:04:46  and so what you have to do instead, is press

00:04:48  cmd, option, tab, and that will go ahead,

00:04:51  in my case, it'll switch me back to the black arrow tool.

00:04:54  So in other words, either ctrl ~ on the PC,

00:04:57  or cmd, option, tab on the mac, is going to toggle

00:05:00  between the black and white arrows.

00:05:03  At which point, I can keep that ctrl key down,

00:05:05  or the cmd key down on the mac, and then I can click

00:05:08  on that new corner point that I just created

00:05:10  and I can drag it to a new location.

00:05:12  And that's a pretty great way to work, by the way.

00:05:15  You just go ahead and release the key, hover your cursor

00:05:17  over a segment, click in order to add an anchor point,

00:05:21  and then ctrl or cmd drag it to a different location.

00:05:24  And I'll go ahead and do it again here and ctrl or cmd drag

00:05:27  it over to this location, and so I can contine working

00:05:30  that way as much as I like.

00:05:32  Now you also have the option of deleting anchor points.

00:05:35  And you do that by hovering your cursor over an existing

00:05:39  point, like so, at which time you'll see a minus sign

00:05:42  next to the cursor, and then all you have to do is click

00:05:45  in order to make that anchor point go away.

00:05:48  And now I might just ctrl drag or cmd drag that point upward

00:05:51  a little, and this works, by the way, with any path outline.

00:05:55  It doesn't have to have been drawn with the pen tool.

00:05:58  So, for example, let's say you want to create a free-form

00:06:00  triangle; then one way to do that is to grab the

00:06:03  rectangle tool, which again, you can get by pressing the

00:06:06  m key, and then you can just go ahead and draw

00:06:08  any kind of rectangle you like.

00:06:10  Then, switch to the pen tool.

00:06:12  Which again, you can get by pressing the p key,

00:06:15  and then, go ahead and click on one of the anchor points

00:06:17  to delete it and you end up with a triangle.

00:06:20  You'll also see a brief message saying that the shape

00:06:22  has been expanded because it's no longer a so called

00:06:25  smart rectangle here inside Illustrator.

00:06:29  And now I can go ahead and ctrl drag or cmd drag

00:06:32  any of the anchor points in any manner that I like.

00:06:35  And that's how you create and modify corner points

00:06:39  just by clicking with the pen tool, here inside Illustrator.

00:01:46  All right, we don't want the background

00:01:47  to be this color, that's for sure.

00:01:48  So I'm going to change this stroke to None,

00:01:51  and then I'm going to zoom in

00:01:53  by pressing ctrl + 0 or cmd + 0 on the mac,

00:01:57  so that we can see these next two steps in vivid detail.

00:02:00  And what you want to do to access these patterns

00:02:02  is click on the little library icon

00:02:04  in the bottom left corner of the Swatches panel,

00:02:07  drop down to Patterns,

00:02:09  then go to Decorative,

00:02:10  and finally you want Vonster Patterns,

00:02:13  which is going to bring up

00:02:14  this little micro panel right here.

00:02:16  Now, if you want to better see what you're doing,

00:02:18  then click on the fly out menu icon

00:02:19  and choose Large Thumbnail View,

00:02:22  and that will provide you with a better view

00:02:23  of every single one of these patterns.

00:02:25  And then again, assuming that your Fill is active,

00:02:28  go ahead and select this guy right here, Bugaboo,

00:02:31  which is going to give you this pattern here.

00:02:33  All right, now I want to add another

00:02:35  pattern, Splatterz, in front of it,

00:02:37  and so I'm going to go up the Window menu

00:02:39  and choose the Appearance command

00:02:41  to bring up the Appearance panel

00:02:43  and then I'll go ahead and drop down

00:02:45  to the second icon in the bottom left corner,

00:02:48  Add New Fill, in order to add a new fill pattern.

00:02:51  And now make sure that Fill is selected

00:02:53  and go ahead and click on Splatterz

00:02:56  in order to add it to the mix.

00:02:58  And now you can go ahead and close this floating panel.

00:03:01  And now I'm going to switch back to the Layers panel

00:03:04  and I'm going to click in the lock column

00:03:06  in order to lock the background layer.

00:03:09  Now the thing about what we're seeing

00:03:10  is it's not entirely currently accurate,

00:03:13  and that's because Illustrator's GPU preview

00:03:16  has a few known issues, meaning that it's a bit buggy.

00:03:19  And so if you really want to see what's going on,

00:03:21  then go up the View menu

00:03:23  and choose Preview on CPU,

00:03:25  and you will see this more accurate,

00:03:27  and I think better interaction.

00:03:30  And that's how you add an eye-catching

00:03:31  paint splatter background to any piece of artwork

00:03:34  here inside Illustrator.

00:02:58  and another point here,

00:03:00  so I want you to click on this one

00:03:01  and shift click on this guy.

00:03:03  And then shift click on this point

00:03:05  and shift click on this one.

00:03:07  So we're selecting the pair of points

00:03:08  on either side of the brush.

00:03:10  And now, I want to you to go up to the Edit menu

00:03:13  and choose a Copy command or you can press ctrl+c.

00:03:16  And then return to the Edit menu and choose Paste in Front

00:03:19  or you can press ctrl+f or cmd+f on the Mac.

00:03:22  All right, now we're going to blend

00:03:23  between these two path outlines

00:03:26  by going up to the Object menu,

00:03:27  choosing Blend, and then choosing Make.

00:03:31  And that's going to create a single,

00:03:32  intermediate line between the two.

00:03:34  Now, I don't want it to be this thick so,

00:03:37  notice that my stroke panel is up

00:03:38  over here on the right hand side of the screen,

00:03:40  which gives me access to my line weight

00:03:42  because I'm not seeing it up here

00:03:44  in the control panel anymore.

00:03:45  And so, I'm going to change that weight value

00:03:47  to 2 pts like so.

00:03:49  Now, also notice these weird little wedges down here

00:03:51  near the bottom of the brush.

00:03:53  I'm going to go ahead and zoom in

00:03:54  so we can see them a little better.

00:03:56  That's caused by the fact that

00:03:57  our arced lines are still filled.

00:03:59  And we can fix that up here in the swatches panel.

00:04:01  Make sure your fill is active and then click on None

00:04:04  or you can just press the slash key.

00:04:06  All right, now we need to change

00:04:07  this one interval line right here to four lines.

00:04:10  And you do that by returning to the Object menu,

00:04:13  dropping back down to Blend, and choosing Blend Options.

00:04:17  And then, go ahead and change Spacing

00:04:19  to Specified Steps so that we can control

00:04:21  the number of steps that we're seeing.

00:04:23  Turn on the Preview check box,

00:04:25  and then click inside that value that currently says 1

00:04:28  for that one step right there,

00:04:29  and then press the up arrow key

00:04:31  until you get an effect you like.

00:04:33  For me, I went with four steps like so.

00:04:36  At which point, you can go ahead and click OK.

00:04:39  And that, friends, is a very brief introduction

00:04:41  to a feature called blending in Illustrator.

00:04:44  And we'll be seeing more of it in the advanced course.

00:04:46  All right, now I'm going to go ahead

00:04:48  and switch back to my curvature tool

00:04:50  and I'm going to alt or opt click right there

00:04:53  to create a corner point.

00:04:55  And then, I'll click, let's say, right about there

00:04:57  and here as well, what I'm trying to do is

00:05:00  draw some goopy paint at the end of the brush.

00:05:03  And so I'm just going to create

00:05:05  a total of three loops right here

00:05:06  and then I'll click at this location, up here,

00:05:09  and then finally, I'll click at the very first corner point

00:05:12  in order to close that path.

00:05:14  And now I'll go ahead and change the fill color

00:05:16  for that paint to the paint that begins R=237

00:05:20  in order to produce this effect here

00:05:22  and then I'll press the v key to switch

00:05:23  to the black arrow tool,

00:05:25  and I'll go ahead and click off the shape to deselect it.

00:05:28  And now I'll press ctrl+0 or cmd+0 on a Mac

00:05:31  in order to zoom out.

00:05:33  And that is, at least one way,

00:05:34  to add a few line art embellishments

00:05:36  using a combination of the curvature tool,

00:05:39  along with the make blend command here inside Illustrator.
