00:01:47  all the way over to the right and click okay,

00:01:50  and now if I draw the path, even if

00:01:53  the preview's looking pretty chunky,

00:01:55  I should expect to see smoother results.

00:01:58  And sure enough, as soon as I release the mouse button

00:02:01  I see a very smooth shape indeed.

00:02:04  Now, the one unfortunate problem with it

00:02:06  is that it's an open path outline instead of a closed one.

00:02:09  Notice if I press the A key to switch to my wide arrow tool

00:02:13  and I click on one of these points up here

00:02:15  at the top of the heart, the two points

00:02:18  are not joined together by default.

00:02:20  Now you can join them, just by moving

00:02:23  one directly on the other like so,

00:02:25  and then marquee-ing those two points

00:02:27  in order to make sure thy're both selected

00:02:29  and then just going up to this option right here

00:02:31  connect selected endpoints, and that'll

00:02:33  go ahead and fuse those endpoints together,

00:02:36  in order to create a closed path outline like so.

00:02:39  So that's one way to work, the other is to

00:02:41  redraw the shape, subject to a different setting.

00:02:44  And to demonstrate that, I'll press the backspace key

00:02:46  a couple of times here on a PC, that would be the delete key

00:02:50  on the Mac, in order to get rid of that shape,

00:02:52  and I'll switch back to my pencil tool once again

00:02:55  and I'll press the enter key, or the return key

00:02:57  on the Mac, to bring up the dialogue box.

00:02:59  Now this dialogue box has been in a high state

00:03:01  of transition, so you may see different stuff.

00:03:04  But currently we have this checkbox

00:03:06  "Close paths when ends are within", however many pixels,

00:03:10  by default it's set to fifteen, so in other words

00:03:13  you need to make sure that you end your

00:03:15  path outline within fifteen screen pixels

00:03:18  of where you begin it, and so I'm

00:03:20  gonna go ahead and turn that checkbox on

00:03:21  and click okay, and now I'll go ahead

00:03:24  and draw the shape once again,

00:03:26  but I want you to note the cursor

00:03:27  see how the pencil has a little asterisk next to it?

00:03:30  That tells you that you're creating

00:03:31  a new path outline, like so, but notice

00:03:35  as soon as we arrive at the very first point

00:03:38  inside of the shape up here at the top,

00:03:41  that we're gonna see a circle next to the cursor,

00:03:44  which tells us that we're gonna close the path outline.

00:03:46  Now the one problem with it, at this point

00:03:48  is that it's rounded off, so the closed points tend to be

00:03:53  what are known as smooth points, as opposed to corners.

00:03:56  If what you want is a corner, then try beginning

00:03:59  the draw at a different location.

00:04:02  So for example, I'll just go ahead and

00:04:03  press the backspace key there, and again

00:04:05  that's the delete key on a Mac,

00:04:06  and then I'll draw the hump of the heart,

00:04:09  and then I'll come back around

00:04:11  and draw the center of it, like so,

00:04:14  and then I'll go ahead and connect those endpoints

00:04:16  In order to create a nice, clean, smooth, fluid shape

00:04:19  complete with corners at the top, and the bottom.

00:04:23  Alright, now I'm gonna make my shape a little bigger

00:04:26  by clicking on the word transform up here

00:04:28  in the control panel, or again if you don't see it

00:04:30  click the X, Y, W, or H and I'm gonna make sure

00:04:34  that both the values are linked together,

00:04:36  that is both the width and height values,

00:04:38  and then I'll change the width

00:04:40  value to, let's say 500 points.

00:04:43  And next, I'll go ahead and give the shape

00:04:45  a thicker line weight by taking that

00:04:48  stroke value up to eight points,

00:04:49  and I'll click on the fill icon, which is the first stroke

00:04:51  up here in the control panel, and I'll change the color

00:04:54  to the shade of red, Rx237 Gx28 Bx36

00:04:59  in order to create this final effect here.

00:05:02  And that folks is the basics of how you use

00:05:04  the best free-form drawing tool in the business,

00:05:07  the new and improved pencil tool here inside Illustrator.

just so we can really see what's going on.

00:00:59  All right, now I want to make a copy of this guy,

00:01:01  so I'll go ahead and drag it by its center point

00:01:03  over to the other side of the door,

00:01:05  and then I'll press the Alt key or the Opt key on a Mac,

00:01:08  and drop it into place in order to create a copy like so.

00:01:12  And I just want to make sure that this guy is

00:01:14  the same distance from the door as the other rectangle,

00:01:18  as the other window, and notice, now, did you see that,

00:01:20  just a second ago?

00:01:21  Boy, it kind of went away there.

00:01:23  There it is.

00:01:24  We have new Smart Guide action in this most recent version

00:01:27  of Illustrator, so we're seeing that the two windows are

00:01:30  the same distance from that door,

00:01:33  which is exactly what I want.

00:01:35  All right, now, I want to subtract these windows

00:01:37  from the house, so I'm going to click off the house

00:01:39  in order to deselect it, because any time you're doing

00:01:42  these combinations, you want everything deselected

00:01:45  inside the illustration, and then just go ahead

00:01:48  and scribble inside each one of the windows.

00:01:51  And you want to keep your scribble inside there.

00:01:54  You don't want to start out and go in like that,

00:01:57  because that's going to end up combining

00:01:59  those two shapes together, so I'm going

00:02:02  to undo that change and just scribble inside

00:02:04  of here once again.

00:02:05  All right, now, at this point, it's difficult

00:02:07  to tell if what we have are rectangles

00:02:09  that are filled with white, or whether they're transparent,

00:02:12  so I'm going to make a couple of changes here.

00:02:15  First, I'm going to click inside this window,

00:02:17  and notice I can't get to it, and that's because

00:02:19  it is a hole, so I'm not clicking on anything.

00:02:21  I need to click on its outline to select it,

00:02:24  and then I'll Shift+click on this guy

00:02:25  to select him as well, and now I'll go up here

00:02:28  to the Control Panel and increase that line weight value

00:02:31  once again to six points.

00:02:33  And now I'm going to draw a straight line,

00:02:35  don't make it a zigzag, just draw a straight line.

00:02:37  That is not a horizontal line, however,

00:02:40  so I'm going to try again by dragging more horizontally,

00:02:43  and then I'm going to drag vertically as well,

00:02:47  in order to create a vertical line.

00:02:49  All right, now I'll click on one

00:02:50  and Shift+click on the other to select them both,

00:02:53  and I'll go up here to the Control Panel,

illustrator آموزش ایلوستریتور

00:02:55  make sure Align to Selection is active,

00:02:58  and then click on the second icon,

00:03:00  Horizontal Align Center, and then click on the fifth icon,

00:03:03  Vertical Align Center, in order to align those guys

00:03:06  with each other.

00:03:07  And then I want to make sure that they're centered

00:03:09  inside the window, so I'm going to press Ctrl+Y,

00:03:11  or Cmd+Y on the Mac, to switch to the Outline mode,

00:03:14  and that way I can see that center point,

00:03:17  right there in the center of the rectangle.

00:03:19  And I'll go ahead and drag these guys into alignment,

00:03:22  so that they more or less snap, not really necessarily

00:03:24  getting any snapping action,

00:03:26  but I can see that's close enough.

00:03:28  And I'll press Ctrl+Y, or Cmd+Y on the Mac,

00:03:30  to switch back to the Preview mode,

00:03:32  and I'll increase the line weight value

00:03:34  to a whopping 10 points, let's say, and for some reason,

00:03:38  I'm ending up with round caps, and if that bothers you,

00:03:41  obviously you can click on the word Stroke

00:03:44  and change them back to butt caps.

00:03:46  Doesn't really matter, but I want you to see that behavior.

00:03:49  And then, I'm going to switch back to the Black Arrow tool,

00:03:52  up here at the top of the Toolbox, and I'm going

00:03:54  to grab these guys like so, click on one,

00:03:56  Shift+click on the other, and then drag them over

00:03:59  until they intersect with the center of the other window.

00:04:02  I've got the Shift key down, I'm adding the Alt key,

00:04:05  or the Opt key on the Mac, in order to create a clone

00:04:08  of those lines like so.

00:04:10  And now go ahead and Shift+click on the other guys,

00:04:13  the originals, and I'll right-click anywhere

00:04:15  inside the document window, choose Arrange,

00:04:17  and choose Send to Back, and you can see

00:04:20  that we are now seeing through the windows

00:04:22  to those panes.

00:04:24  All right, now let's say I want to recolor the roof.

00:04:27  In that case, I'll go ahead and select my Shaper tool

00:04:29  once again, and instead of clicking inside the roof,

00:04:32  I'll double-click in it, in order to select

00:04:35  just that triangular path outline,

00:04:37  and then I'll Shift+click on the chimney to select it.

00:04:40  Shift+clicking, even with the Shaper tool,

00:04:43  is going to select multiple path outlines,

00:04:45  and then I can change the Fill color

00:04:47  up here in the Control panel to, let's say,

00:04:49  this darkish shade of blue over here.

00:04:51  And notice what happens if I now click off the paths

00:04:54  and deselect them.

00:04:56  I have managed to change the color of the roof and chimney,

00:04:58  but I have lost any stroke between the two.

00:05:02  So I don't have a stroke, as you can see here,

00:05:04  and that's just the kind of stuff that you can do

00:05:06  with Dynamic Shaper Groups here inside Illustrator.

00:05:10  I want you to also notice that, even though we've called

00:05:12  for mitered joins where our strokes are concerned,

00:05:15  we end up with round joins at the path intersections.

00:05:20  So, for whatever reason, that is something

00:05:22  that Illustrator goes ahead and does.

00:05:24  So let's say I want to bring back a stroke

00:05:26  along the roof line.

00:05:28  Well, the easiest way to do that is to zoom out

00:05:30  by pressing Ctrl+0 or Cmd+0 on a Mac,

00:05:33  and now I'm going to switch back

00:05:34  to my Black Arrow tool.

00:05:35  Now, of course, if I were to click on that path,

00:05:38  I'm going to select the whole darn thing,

00:05:40  as indicated by these red outlines here,

00:05:43  because, after all, I'm working on a red layer.

00:05:45  If you had the Bounding Box turned on,

00:05:47  you could see it as well.

00:05:49  I don't want to edit the entire house, however,

00:05:51  so I'm going to switch to the Group Isolation mode

00:05:53  by double-clicking on the roof.

00:05:57  And so, now notice, because I double-clicked

00:05:59  I'm seeing that I'm working inside the Shaper Group

00:06:02  up here in the upper left corner of the window,

00:06:05  and now, what that means is I can click on the roof

00:06:07  to select it independently, Shift+click on the chimney

00:06:10  to select it independently as well,

00:06:12  and then I'm just going to Shift+drag these elements up,

00:06:15  so that they're no longer intersecting the green house,

00:06:18  and that restores the stroke, as you can see.

00:06:20  And now, if I drag these guys back down,

00:06:23  we have managed to reinstate that stroke

00:06:26  along the bottom of the roof.

00:06:28  All right, that's a little low, however, so I'll probably

00:06:30  Shift+Up Arrow in order to nudge the roof

00:06:32  up a little bit, and then, now that I'm done

00:06:35  modifying the roof, I'll go ahead

00:06:36  and press the Esc key in order to escape

00:06:39  out of that Group Isolation mode,

00:06:41  at which point, if I were to click on the house,

00:06:43  I would end up selecting the entire thing.

00:06:45  I don't want it selected, however,

00:06:47  so I'm just going to click off the house

00:06:49  in order to deselect it, and then I'm going

00:06:52  to hide my Guide lines by going to the View menu,

00:06:55  choose Guides, and choose Hide Guides

00:06:58  to turn them off.

00:07:00  And that's how you subtract paths in order

00:07:02  to create the windows, as well as split paths

00:07:04  in order to create this independent roof and chimney

00:07:07  using the new Shaper tool here inside Illustrator.

00:00:38  But notice when I release the mouse button

00:00:41  that I end up getting a small equilateral triangle.

00:00:45  So every time you create a triangle with this tool,

00:00:48  all three segments are the same length.

00:00:51  Alright now I'll go ahead and click on the triangle

00:00:52  to select it,

00:00:54  and notice that it is a smart polygon,

00:00:56  as indicated by the word polygon over here

00:00:58  on the far right side of the Control Panel,

00:01:00  which means that I can drag this Plus-Minus widget

00:01:03  in order to add or delete sides.

00:01:06  Of course, I still want three sides,

00:01:08  so I'll leave that alone.

00:01:10  We also have this accurate center point,

00:01:12  which is located equidistant

00:01:14  from each one of the sides.

00:01:16  We'll see how that changes in just a moment.

00:01:19  So I'm gonna go ahead and drag this guy

00:01:21  all the way over

00:01:23  to some place along the far left side of the document,

00:01:25  and now I'm gonna stretch it by dragging

00:01:28  the bottom right handle

00:01:29  all the way until the shape is more or less centered

00:01:32  as I can see right here.

00:01:34  But notice that the shape is expanded,

00:01:36  so it's now a static path outline,

00:01:38  as indicated by the word Path

00:01:40  on the far left side of the Control Panel,

00:01:42  and we have a less accurate center point,

00:01:44  it's too high as you can see here,

00:01:46  because it now represents the center

00:01:48  of the bounding box,

00:01:49  but it does match the center of the width of the shape.

00:01:52  So everything's good.

00:01:54  Alright now I'll go ahead and draw a chimney

00:01:56  as another rectangle right there.

00:01:59  Now let's say I wanna go ahead and combine these paths.

00:02:02  You do that by making sure the paths

00:02:04  are deselected, as we're seeing right here,

00:02:06  that's very important.

00:02:07  And then you wanna draw a zigzag

00:02:09  inside of your path outlines.

00:02:13  So notice if I just draw a zigzag like so,

00:02:16  then I'm gonna combine the chimney

00:02:18  along with the roof in order to create

00:02:21  this effect here.

00:02:23  I'm gonna undo that however,

00:02:25  so that I can show you a few other options,

00:02:27  and I'll do that of course

00:02:28  by pressing CTRL+Z,

00:02:29  or Command + Z on a Mac.

00:02:30  If you end up starting your drag outside the boundary

00:02:33  of the path outline, like so,

00:02:35  and then dragging in,

00:02:37  then you're going to delete the shape

00:02:39  rather than add it.

00:02:41  So you wanna make sure

00:02:42  when you're adding shapes together,

00:02:43  that you go ahead and start your drag

00:02:46  inside the path outline like so,

00:02:48  and stay inside the path as well,

00:02:50  and you wanna make sure that you scribble

00:02:52  out into the other path that you want to combine.

00:02:55  Now you can scribble all over the place

00:02:57  if you like, but you don't have to.

00:02:59  All you need to do is make sure

00:03:01  you're creating a letter Z,

00:03:03  and let me show you what that looks like.

00:03:05  I'll go ahead and undo the combination

00:03:07  of those paths again,

00:03:08  and I will start inside here,

00:03:10  so you need to drag down in this case,

00:03:12  then back, and then like so,

00:03:15  in order to draw a Z,

00:03:17  so you just need three back and forths on your zigzag.

00:03:20  And then I can just go ahead and drag this guy

00:03:23  all the way down to here,

00:03:25  and that'll combine all three of my paths into one.

00:03:29  Alright now let's say that you wanna change the color

00:03:31  of the paths, because after all,

00:03:32  the shaper tool always gives you these light gray fills.

00:03:35  Why then, just go ahead and click on the path outline

00:03:38  to select it, and you'll see your outline light up.

00:03:40  In my case it's appearing red,

00:03:42  because I'm working on a red layer.

00:03:45  I am not seeing any anchor points or handles

00:03:47  and that's because you cannot modify anchor points

00:03:50  using this tool.

00:03:51  If that bothers you,

00:03:53  then you can go up to the View menu

00:03:54  and choose Show Bounding Box

00:03:56  in order to see a big bounding box surrounding the shape,

00:03:59  so that you know for sure that it's selected.

00:04:02  I don't want that however,

00:04:03  so I'm gonna turn the bounding box off

00:04:05  by choosing the Hide Bounding Box command.

00:04:08  And now at this point, I can go up to the Fill Swatch,

00:04:10  this first swatch up here in the Control Panel,

00:04:13  and I can change it to, let's say,

00:04:15  this light shade of green right there.

00:04:17  And I'll also increase the line weight value

00:04:20  to 6 points, in order to produce this effect.

00:04:24  Alright, now I'm gonna add a door,

00:04:25  and incidentally, there's no rule that says you have to

00:04:28  draw your shapes with the shaper tool.

00:04:30  And so, for example, I can go ahead and create the door

00:04:33  as a rectangle using the Rectangle Tool,

00:04:36  and now I'll just go ahead and draw a door

00:04:38  that looks something like this, let's say,

00:04:41  so that it's centerpoint is centered

00:04:44  on that vertical guideline,

00:04:46  and I'll go ahead and release, and now,

00:04:47  I'll get rid of that little extra edge

00:04:49  down there at the bottom of the door,

00:04:51  by switching to the Shaper Tool,

00:04:53  and then you wanna click off the shape to deselect it,

00:04:56  because notice what happens if I start dragging

00:04:58  on this guide while it's selected,

00:05:00  it's very possible I'm gonna get rid of it

00:05:02  or something else is gonna go wrong.

00:05:04  That's not what I want, so,

00:05:06  I'll go ahead and undo that and click off the shape

00:05:08  to deselect it, and then, I'll just go ahead and drag

00:05:11  into the shape, so I'm crossing the boundary,

00:05:13  I'm not crossing all the way into the house, like that,

00:05:16  because if I did that, then I would subtract the door

00:05:18  as a hole in the house, that's not what I want,

00:05:21  so I'll just go ahead and press CTRL + Z,

00:05:23  Command + Z on a Mac,

00:05:24  and I will drag in and along the edge,

00:05:27  just right there, notice I've got another letter Z,

00:05:29  albeit at an angle, and then I'll release,

00:05:32  and that goes ahead and subtracts away that area.

00:05:35  Now what I wanna do is color that door differently,

00:05:37  and so I'm gonna click on it to select the entire

00:05:39  shaper group, and by the way,

00:05:42  you can tell it's a shaper group,

00:05:43  a special new group inside Illustrator,

00:05:45  because of the words "Shaper Group"

00:05:47  on the far left side of the Control Panel.

00:05:49  And then, I will click once again,

00:05:51  in order to isolate this region.

00:05:53  And that little dot pattern is showing you

00:05:55  that you now have the option of changing the color

00:05:58  of that region just by going up to the Fill Swatch,

00:06:01  once again, and changing it to what ever you like.

00:06:03  I'm gonna go with this light shade of orange,

00:06:06  in order to recolor the door like so.

00:06:09  And here's where things get exciting.

00:06:11  I'll just go ahead and press the Escape key

00:06:13  in order to hide that panel.

00:06:14  Let's say you wanna modify any one of these shapes.

00:06:17  Then just go ahead and double-click on it,

00:06:20  in order to select that shape.

00:06:22  So that's a double-click,

00:06:24  that will give you access, in our case,

00:06:25  to this rectangle,

00:06:27  at which point I can go ahead and change it's size

00:06:29  by dragging on one of these handles,

00:06:31  or I can move it to a different location.

00:06:34  And so what we have here is a dynamic

00:06:36  combination of paths, so you can change the paths around

00:06:39  as much as you like.

00:06:41  You can even drag the thing way out there, like so,

00:06:44  if you do though and then you drag it back in,

00:06:46  you're gonna mess things up.

00:06:47  So I'll just go ahead and press CTRL + Z a couple times

00:06:49  in order to undo that change.

00:06:51  And so for example, if I decide the door is too tall,

00:06:53  I can now just click on it,

00:06:55  because I'm in the Shape Editing Mode,

00:06:57  and I could reduce it's height, like so,

00:07:01  in order to get a shorter door,

00:07:02  I could make it narrower

00:07:04  by dragging one of these side handles

00:07:06  and pressing the ALT key,

00:07:07  or the Option key on a Mac,

00:07:09  so that I'm scaling both sides inward

00:07:11  with respect to the center.

00:07:13  And in my case, I really want it to be a little taller,

00:07:15  so I'm gonna drag the top up, like so,

00:07:18  and then when you're done,

00:07:19  just click off the path outline

00:07:21  to deselect it.

00:07:23  And that, friends, is how you dynamically combine paths

00:07:26  using the Shaper Tool.

00:07:28  And in the next movie,

00:07:29  I'll show you how to subtract paths

00:07:30  in order to create holes.

to switch back to my Black Arrow tool.

00:01:00  And I'm going to move this shape to right about there

00:01:04  while I press the alt key or the option key on the Mac

00:01:07  to create a duplicate of it.

00:01:08  And then I'll press ctrl + C, ctrl + F,

00:01:11  or cmd + C, cmd + F, to make a copy of this shape,

00:01:14  and I'll click on the word Transform

00:01:16  to bring up the transform panel,

00:01:18  make sure that the right point in the reference point matrix

00:01:21  is selected, then go to the fly out menu

00:01:23  and choose Flip Horizontal

00:01:25  in order to flip that shape like so.

00:01:27  And now I'm just going to marquee both these shapes

00:01:29  and drag them down.

00:01:30  And what I want to do is create a slight gap

00:01:32  between these three shapes like so.

00:01:36  All right, so now let's say I go ahead and marquee

00:01:38  all three shapes to select them,

00:01:40  and I grab my Shape Builder tool and I press the shift key

00:01:43  so that I can marquee all three shapes,

00:01:45  and that basically doesn't do anything.

00:01:48  They're still independent shapes as we can see

00:01:51  by pressing the V key to switch back

00:01:52  to the Black Arrow tool.

00:01:54  And as you can see, I can drag them around

00:01:56  just as much as I ever could.

00:01:57  All right, so I'll press ctrl + Z,

00:01:59  or cmd + Z on the Mac to undo that change,

00:02:01  and then I'll just go ahead and marquee though shapes again,

00:02:03  click on the Shape Builder tool

00:02:05  and this time I'll press the enter key

00:02:07  or the return key on the Mac to bring up

00:02:09  the Shape Builder Tool Options dialog box,

00:02:11  and I'll turn on Gap Detection.

00:02:13  And now you have the option of setting how big the gap is.

00:02:17  And you can just fool around with that to see what works,

00:02:20  but I'm going to set it to medium,

00:02:22  or you can dial in your own custom value if you like.

00:02:25  And then I'll go ahead and click OK,

00:02:27  and now if I once again shift marquee those shapes,

00:02:31  I join them altogether because Illustrator

00:02:34  is filling in the gap.

00:02:35  Now it's not necessarily the most beautiful effect,

00:02:38  as you can see right here,

00:02:39  but it is possible and it may be the kind of thing

00:02:41  that you'll find useful at some point in time.

00:02:44  All right, I'm going to zoom back out

00:02:46  and press the backspace key to get rid of that thing.

00:02:48  Now let's check out what happens when you work with

00:02:50  absolutely open unfilled paths.

00:02:53  So I'm going to go ahead and select, let's say,

00:02:57  the Arc tool right here,

00:02:58  and then I'll draw a big arc like so

00:03:00  while pressing the shift key to constrain it

00:03:02  to exactly a quarter circle like so.

00:03:05  And it happens to have a width and a height of 400 pts,

00:03:09  not really all that important but there it is.

00:03:11  All right, now I'm going to go ahead and cross this arc

00:03:14  with a straight line that I'll draw

00:03:16  with the Line Segment tool.

00:03:17  So I want to get my cursor into the right position here,

00:03:20  and thanks to the fact I have smart guides on,

00:03:22  I can see those intersect lines.

00:03:24  And now I'll drag up into the right

00:03:26  while pressing the shift key like so.

00:03:29  And that'll give me a perfectly diagonal line.

00:03:31  All right, now I'm going to press the V key

00:03:33  to switch back to the Black Arrow tool.

00:03:34  I'll marquee both of these paths

00:03:36  and let's set the line weight to something like 10 pts

00:03:39  so we can see what we're doing.

00:03:40  Now if you go over here to the Shape Builder tool

00:03:43  and you try to do something to these lines

00:03:45  like shift marquee them, nothing really happens

00:03:49  as you can see.

00:03:50  And that's because once again, they are open

00:03:52  and they are unfilled.

00:03:54  If you would like something to happen,

00:03:55  if you would like to split the arc at that straight line,

00:03:57  for example, then go ahead and press the enter key

00:04:00  or the return key on the Mac,

00:04:02  to bring up the Shape Builder Options dialog box.

00:04:04  And you might as well turn off Gap Detection

00:04:06  while we're here, and then turn on this checkbox,

00:04:09  In Merge Mode, Clicking Stroke Splits the Path,

00:04:12  and click OK in order to dismiss the dialog box.

00:04:15  And now notice, if you hover over that stroke,

00:04:18  it turns red, at which point you can click on it.

00:04:21  And with any luck, that'll work.

00:04:23  It doesn't always work but in my case it did,

00:04:25  because I can see a little anchor point at this location,

00:04:28  and now I'm going to click on a straight line as well

00:04:30  to break it hopefully.

00:04:32  And now I'll press the V key to switch back

00:04:34  to the Black Arrow tool.

00:04:35  I'll click off the paths to deselect them.

00:04:37  This guy is now split like so,

00:04:39  and this guy did not get split.

00:04:41  Notice that?

00:04:42  So it doesn't always work the way it's supposed to,

00:04:45  but I'm going to go ahead and press the A key

00:04:48  to switch to my White Arrow tool,

00:04:50  and I'll click on this end point right there

00:04:52  to select it and I'll drag it until it snaps into alignment

00:04:55  with the end of the arc.

00:04:56  And then I'll drag it again to the other end of the arc

00:04:59  and press the alt key or the option key on the Mac,

00:05:02  to create a copy of that line.

00:05:04  I'll press the V key to switch back to my Black Arrow tool.

00:05:07  I'll click on this arc to select it

00:05:09  and then I'll press the backspace key to get rid of it,

00:05:11  and now I'm going to marquee all three of these lines

00:05:14  like so, and I'll go up to the Object menu,

00:05:16  choose Path and then choose Join,

00:05:19  or you can just press ctrl + J or cmd + J on the Mac

00:05:22  in order to join those open paths into a single closed one.

00:05:26  All right, now I'm going to click on the word Transform

00:05:28  up here in the control panel,

00:05:30  and I'm going to change my rotate value right there,

00:05:32  but first I'm going to rotate around the center.

00:05:35  And now I'll dial in a rotate value

00:05:38  of -90-22.5.

00:05:42  And the reason -22.5 is because that's half

00:05:44  of the 45 degrees that are left to this arc.

00:05:47  And now I'll press the enter key,

00:05:49  or the return key on the Mac, and that's going to rotate

00:05:51  my shape upward like so.

00:05:52  And now if I grab my Ellipse tool and I draw a little circle

00:05:56  in there and I go up to the control panel

00:05:59  and click on the first swatch,

00:06:01  change it to this dark shade of red

00:06:03  and then click on the second swatch for the stroke

00:06:05  and change it to none, and then press the V key

00:06:08  to switch back to my Black Arrow tool

00:06:10  and drag this guy down just a little bit

00:06:13  and click off of it, I end up with a pepperoni pizza!

00:06:16  And so that's how you work with those two

00:06:18  Shape Builder Tool Options, which are Gap Detection

00:06:21  and In Merge Mode, Clicking Stroke Splits the Path.
